Imagine you have figured out the secret of success or something that you like to do that gives you happiness. Or imagine you have a bunch of ideas and you want to try all of them. Fortunately for you, everything is working nice but you are still tired. You do not know when to stop or where to stop. This is where setting the limit comes into picture.
Setting the limit can be used both for good things and bad things. For example everyone talks about omega 3 fatty acids, organic food, broccoli diet and various other similar stuff these days. All these are good food but too much of good is bad in case you haven’t figured that out yet. Treat yourself to the same food for a week and you will end up with all kinds of problems.
Same is applicable for work too. Lot of people get overambitious, work too hard, stress too much, try too hard to impress their boss and eventually we all know what happens. There is a point where you need to stop.
Lot of people complain that they do not know what to do in life. In my opinion that is still better than knowing what to do but not knowing when to stop. At least when you do not know what to do in life, you can keep looking and trying till you know what to do.
Applying the limit rule is no rocket science. All of us do it in our everyday life. Think of it like your daily/monthly budget. You know how much you earn every month and based on that you set aside some money for expenses, some for savings and some for whatever else you like to do. Applying the rules for other things too will help you get started. The key here is to know what you want in life.
What happens when you do not set the limit? Well, you overshoot your budget and eventually end up bankrupt. You do not want your life to go bankrupt not just in terms of money but in terms of success, happiness, satisfaction, friends and good health. Well it’s not too late, you know what to do.
